    Is CBD addictive?

CBD (or cannabidiol) is one of the cannabinoids found in hemp, commonly known as cannabis. CBD is used by millions of people to relax naturally.

As for THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), it is the main cannabinoid from cannabis. It causes a psychoactive "high" effect.

Unlike THC and some pharmaceutical drugs (antidepressants, anxiolytics), CBD in all its forms (Full spectrum, Broad Spectrum and Isolate) does not cause psychotropic effects. Its sale in France is authorized.

What are the signs of addiction to a psychoactive product?

Recognized as a natural remedy, CBD is used in the treatment of certain pathologies, pain, inflammation, anxiety disorders and other symptoms.

According to a study by the WHO (World Health Organization), the criteria for diagnosing dependence or harmful use of a psychoactive product are:

    • Feeling a strong, compulsive desire to use a psychoactive substance.
    • Having difficulty controlling the use of this substance.
    • Experiencing a physiological withdrawal effect when consumption of the psychoactive substance decreases or stops.
    • Abandon all activities and interests in favor of using the psychoactive substance (time to obtain it, consume it and recover from its effects).
    • Continue to use the substance despite these consequences.
    • Substance dependence is related to the amount consumed. Excessive consumption will lead to a greater risk of creating addiction.

Substance dependence is primarily associated with the amount consumed. Excessive consumption will lead to a greater risk of creating addiction.

This dependence is also associated with the mode of consumption. In France, combustion is the most used mode, as well as the use of tobacco combined with cannabis flowers. Taking into account that tobacco is an addictive substance, it is normal to feel a sensation of dependence on cannabis. If tobacco consumption is reduced or even stopped, this would then limit dependence on cannabis.

In addition, the age of first use may influence whether or not addiction develops. Before the end of brain growth, the risk of addiction is increased.

What is the difference between cannabis and CBD?

CBD is known for its lack of dependency and its great effectiveness, particularly on stress and anxiety. CBD acts on the nervous system and also helps reduce pain and promote sleep.

Often, the image of the cannabis plant is linked to social representations of drugs. For many people, the term “drug” is frightening because it is associated with the notion of addiction, drug addiction or marginality.

It is important to differentiate between cannabis and CBD. Cannabis is composed of several molecules such as phytocannabinoids, terpenes, terpenoids or flavonoids. CBD is one of the phytocannabinoids, just like THC. However, only THC can become addictive because it acts on the reward and motivation circuit, linked to addiction due to the increase in dopamine concentrations in the mesolimbic circuits.

CBD therefore does not present a risk of addiction if consumed without THC. The WHO discovered this during a study in which several mice were given CBD and THC. The latter did not develop an addiction to cannabidiol, but rather to THC . Nothing has been confirmed for humans, but this explains why the development of an addiction is not a problem with CBD.

According to another study published in 2019, “Cannabidiol for the Reduction of Cue-Induced Craving and Anxiety in Drug-Abstinent Individuals With Heroin Use Disorder,” CBD may even be useful in treating addictive behaviors and substance withdrawal.

CBD products to bring a feeling of relaxation:

Products containing CBD are available in several forms such as oil, e-liquid, capsules, gummies, chewing gum, cosmetic products or even food products. The form recognized as the most effective is CBD oil. However, this oil should not be smoked because its combustion generates carcinogenic compounds.

CBD can be taken at any time of the day according to the desires and needs of each person. Consuming CBD in the morning in order to relax before a big day of work, while in the evening, CBD allows you to enjoy a moment of relaxation before going to bed.

CBD is not addictive and can effectively and naturally reduce stress and anxiety. CBD can also help relieve pain.

Délicure, a brand concerned with everyone's well-being, offers CBD gummies , vegan and made in France based on CBD and rich in vitamins. A gummy is dosed at 10mg of cannabidiol, consuming 1 to 3 gummies per day allows you to relax naturally.
