How to take care of your hair ?

Having healthy, radiant hair is synonymous with physical beauty, which is why hair care is essential in the daily lives of men and women, regardless of their age.

THE Hair is often cited first when describing a person. They also talk about us, so it's important to keep them healthy.

Above all, you need to know the nature of your hair (straight, curly, curly, etc.) and understand its growth cycle. Indeed, each type of hair must be subjected to a specific treatment.

Hair lives according to its growth cycle, which is not the same for everyone, and hormonal cycles.

A variation in hormones can lead to hair loss. On average, between 60 and 100 hairs are lost per day.

To better understand the maintenance of your hair, it is therefore necessary to obtain information to understand the hair growth cycles and the structure of the hair fiber.

Certain everyday behaviors (too frequent shampoos, too aggressive styling, harmful and aggressive products, coloring, heating appliances, etc.) weaken and damage the hair.

To remedy this, here are some recommendations to follow in your beauty routine:

Adopt a good hair routine to enhance your hair!

1 - Wash your hair well and maintain it with natural care

Washing your hair helps eliminate excess sebum, sweat, all dust and all traces of pollution that have accumulated in the hair and on the scalp.

The sebaceous glands of the scalp produce sebum which accumulates on the scalp every day. In order to maintain an optimal sebum production rate, shampooing every two/three days is therefore very important.

Some tips to adopt to ensure good washing and better hair care:

Choosing the right shampoo

Shampoo is the most used hair product. It is used to clean and maintain the hair. The ideal shampoo is gentle (with a pH of 5.5) and without sulfates, silicones, quatenary ammonia and preservatives which dry out and damage the hair in the long term.

Obviously, it must be adapted to your hair type (dry, oily, colored, fine, thick, straight, curly, etc.).

Make a mask, treatment and conditioner

In addition to shampoo, which is mainly used for washing, it is advisable to pamper your hair with care. We must favor a natural composition, favoring ecological ingredients and labeled products.

Doing a treatment once a week before shampooing, in the form of a mask or bath, is beneficial for nourishing, strengthening and repairing the hair from the inside. The treatment is even essential for long hair that tends to be dry and fragile. Ideally, you should leave the treatment on for several hours to benefit from its benefits as much as possible.

If you use a treatment, the conditioner is then useless because its effects are similar to the treatment. The conditioner has the advantage of being quicker to use because you only have to leave it on for a few minutes after shampooing. However, the treatment is more effective because it nourishes deeply.

As treatments, natural vegetable oils (castor, jojoba, avocado, argan, olive, coconut, almond, etc.), essential oils (peppermint, tea tree, rosemary, etc.) and vegetable butters (shea, coconut, almond) , preferably organic and fair trade, are ideal for maintaining beautiful hair.

The ideal is to do an oil bath once a week, the break time should be at least 30 minutes, but it is preferable to leave it on for several hours to properly soak the hair. Finally, the oil must be applied to the lengths and ends to nourish and repair, and to the roots if you want to stimulate growth.

Homemade recipes are also widely used when you have dry, brittle ends or itchy scalp. In these, we find aloe vera, clay, eggs, lemon, banana, natural yogurts and many other ingredients which have strengthening and nourishing properties for the hair.

These recipes are natural, inexpensive and easy to make.

Wash your hair at the right temperature and frequency

It is advisable to wash your hair with lukewarm or even cold water. Cool water helps tighten the hair scales and therefore makes it more resistant and less fragile.

Then, you should not wash your hair too frequently as this carries a risk of dehydration and dryness which can also be accompanied by itching. Washing them twice a week is enough.

Massage your hair with your fingertips

To restore vigor to the hair, it is recommended to massage your hair for 2 to 5 minutes when washing (like at the hairdresser). In addition to being pleasant, it is beneficial for the scalp. This helps relax nerve endings, accelerate hair growth, improve blood circulation and oxygenation in the capillary vascular system.

2 – Visit the hairdresser often

To avoid split ends, dryness and dull color, the best solution is to make an appointment with the hairdresser.

Having your hair cut helps prevent split ends (cracks at the ends of the hair). They are formed due to numerous attacks such as the use of hair irons, harmful products or exposure to the sun. The cuticle (membrane composed of keratin which protects the hair) becomes damaged and can no longer preserve the hydration of the hair which cracks.

Cutting your hair regularly (every three/four months) also helps revive its color because split ends can dull it.

Finally, by eliminating damaged and thin ends, hair gains volume and thickness.

3 – Change your daily habits

Get a good night's sleep

Sleeping is important for good health, it is recommended to sleep at least 7 hours per night to be in good shape. The consequences of poor sleep on hair are numerous; they can lose shine and volume and become rougher and brittle. It can also slow growth and cause unusual hair loss.

Furthermore, there are hairstyles to do before going to sleep to avoid breakage of the lengths due to the head rubbing against the pillow. For example, you can do braids that are not too tight, a bun that is not too tight or sleep with a satin bonnet.

Limit or stop the use of heating devices

Hair dryers, straighteners and curling irons used too frequently are harmful to hair. In fact, heat damages the hair scales which lose keratin (the protective film which gives strength and shine). The same goes for the sun, a source of heat especially in summer, which considerably damages the hair because of its UV rays. It is therefore recommended to protect it as much as possible with a hat or scarf.

The best is to let your hair dry in the open air or use a hair dryer with cold mode, as well as to find tips for straightening or curling your hair without heat (use a kardoune to straighten the hair fiber or even sleeping with braids to create waves/curls).

Avoid overly aggressive brushing

Brushes with stiff plastic bristles should be banned, they are too aggressive for the lengths and scalp. It is better to opt for an anti-breakage detangling brush, with soft bristles or boar bristles, which are more respectful of the hair, or a wide-toothed comb (especially for curly hair to maintain the curls).

Additionally, satin/silk scrunchies and elastics are better for gently tying hair, unlike common elastics that break and damage the hair fiber.

Finally, to avoid weakening your hair, you should not brush it during the shower or when it is wet because it is more susceptible to breakage.

Do as little coloring as possible

Coloring and perms damage hair because of their chemical and toxic components which pull apart the cuticle and oxidize the cells of the cortex (middle layer of the hair shaft). The hair then becomes drier and more porous.

It is therefore advisable to do as little as possible, or to use less harmful colorings such as henna for example.

Invest in a satin pillowcase

To limit hair breakage, it is advisable to replace your average pillowcase with a satin/silk pillowcase.

And to dry them, it is better to use a cotton t-shirt rather than a terry towel. In fact, the t-shirt reduces breakage of the hair fiber unlike the terry material which is rougher and aggressive.

4 – Adopt a varied and balanced diet

To have soft, strong and shiny hair, it is necessary to adopt a varied and balanced diet.

Hair needs proteins rich in sulfur amino acids, vitamins, minerals and trace elements.

These proteins participate in the formation of keratin, the main constituent of hair. They include meat, fish, whole grains, legumes and even dairy products.

Concerning minerals, iron facilitates the oxygenation of cells and zinc, in association with sulfur and vitamin B6, play a role in the synthesis of keratin.

As for B vitamins and vitamin A, they play an important role in hair growth and renewal. Vitamin E optimizes blood circulation to the scalp and prevents hair loss. Finally, vitamin C helps to better assimilate iron and vitamin B12.

Foods to eat and foods to avoid

To enhance your hair, the best foods to eat are eggs, legumes, dried fruits, low-fat dairy products, fatty fish, seafood, wheat germs, and of course all fruits and vegetables.

It is obviously essential to drink between 1.5L and 2L of water per day to have a healthy scalp. The more water you drink, the more blood fluid circulates to the hair bulb, which stimulates hair growth.

On the other hand, you should not consume foods rich in refined sugars and with a high glycemic index because they secrete more insulin. This stimulates the adrenal glands which release sebum. These impurities accumulate under the scalp and slow blood circulation to the roots, which prevents the hair from growing properly.

Just like skin or nails, hair needs quality vitamins and minerals to be synthesized and maintained in full health. Sometimes a balanced and varied diet is not enough. Food supplements are then a solution for having healthy hair.

5 – Take food supplements to have healthy hair

To have healthy hair, using a suitable shampoo is not enough. Using targeted food supplements rich in nutrients is a valuable help to beautify hair, regulate excess sebum, stop hair loss and promote hair growth.

It is preferable to choose natural supplements because they are made from natural molecules and not synthetic ones.

These products come in several forms such as a powder, an oral solution, capsules, tablets, ampoules or gummies.

For example, brewer's yeast (in the form of capsules, tablets or powder) is effective in strengthening and softening your hair. It purifies the scalp and thus prevents the hair from getting greasy too quickly. Rich in vitamins and minerals, it also promotes the production of keratin and strengthens the structure of the hair fiber.

It is recommended to take it as a course of one to three months to observe lasting effects.

There is also spirulina which provides a strengthening, nourishing and protective action to the hair. This rich algae enriched with minerals, antioxidants and proteins participates in the same way as brewer's yeast in the synthesis of keratin and the maintenance of the hair fiber.

You have to take it for at least a month to see results.
