    CBD

Do you know CBD? Coming from the hemp plant (or cannabis sativa), CBD is a natural molecule increasingly popular in France for its very interesting therapeutic virtues.

    WHAT IS CBD?

Cannabidiol, better known as “CBD”, is a molecule extracted from the hemp plant, also called cannabis.

Hemp or cannabis (sometimes called industrial hemp, or agricultural hemp, or textile hemp) is one of the first plants domesticated by humans since the Neolithic. Originally from Asia, it is used for making textiles, ropes, oils but also for its medicinal properties.

CBD is the second most studied cannabinoid after THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the main active molecule in cannabis.

In recent years, the CBD (cannabidiol) market in France has experienced strong growth. Due to the fact that it is not psychotropic, a large number of consumers have been seduced by the virtues of CBD.

What is the difference between CBD and THC?

Cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) are the two best-known active substances in hemp (or cannabis sativa) and therefore belong to the same cannabinoid family. However, they act differently on the body.

THC is the so-called “psychoactive” component of cannabis, very
sought after by consumers for its psychoactive or “high” effects, which can lead to addiction. THC acts instantly on the nervous system, affects brain function and can change perceptions, mood and behavior.

CBD, for its part, is preferred for its potential therapeutic virtues. It does not modify the state of consciousness and does not impact consumer behavior.

Unlike THC, CBD is in no way a recreational or harmful substance. By consuming CBD products, there is no risk of addiction or experiencing hallucinations, a feeling of drunkenness or even a
feeling of euphoria that can be brought on by THC.

How does CBD act on the body?

CBD acts on the endocannabinoid system. The endocannabinoid system (or ECS) is a vast network of receptors that we all have, it is a system of CB1 and CB2 cannabinoid membrane receptors, endogenous ligands called endocannabinoids as well as enzymes (proteins that activate or accelerate a chemical reaction ) responsible for the synthesis and degradation of these molecules.
The endocannabinoid system (ECS) therefore plays roles far too numerous to list. We can in particular highlight its role in neuronal plasticity, the control of emotions, the control of appetite and lipogenesis but also in the functioning of the cardiovascular system as well as (formation of fat cells). It takes part in the management of stress responses at the hormonal level (secretion of adrenaline and corticosterone) and in the control of inflammation and the activity of immune cells. It is thanks to this system that the active ingredients of CBD bind to the body and allow you to feel all of its beneficial effects.

What are the effects of CBD?

Several scientific studies have shown that CBD has relaxing and soothing effects.

Thus, consuming CBD would help promote mental and physical well-being:

    - Soothes stress and anxiety disorders
    - Promotes better quality sleep
    - Contributes to joint comfort and muscle relaxation
    - Improves mood and regulates emotions

    Is CBD legal in France?

Yes, CBD is completely legal in France.

In its judgment dated November 19, 2020, the Court
of Justice of the European Union has ruled that CBD (cannabidiol) does not constitute a narcotic product, and can therefore be sold and transported throughout the European continent, including France.

However, a new ministerial decree, published on December 30, 2021, requires that all CBD products must have a THC content of less than 0.3%. Failing this, they come under the criminal policy of combating narcotics.

Is CBD dangerous for your health?

The WHO (World Health Organization) has declared that CBD (cannabidiol) is not harmful to health.

Not causing psychoactive effects unlike THC (the main active molecule of cannabis), CBD is not considered a narcotic and is not dangerous for health.

Furthermore, according to the World Anti-Doping Agency, CBD is not considered a doping substance. On January 1, 2018, it was removed from the list of performance-enhancing products.

Thus, the consumption of CBD does not cause side effects or addiction.

    How to consume CBD?

To benefit from its potential benefits, CBD (cannabidiol) can be consumed in several forms. Certain CBD-based products can be ingested such as capsules, candies , certain food products (chocolate, honey, tea, etc.), or be inhaled with e-liquids.

The most used forms are CBD flowers, preferably consumed as an infusion (although many consumers use them to replace the tobacco in their cigarettes), as well as CBD oil to be used sublingually or to be incorporated into a dish or a drink.

There are also CBD-based cosmetic products that can be applied to the skin such as creams, lotions, balms and even ointments.

There is no ideal form for consuming CBD; it is up to everyone to choose the product best suited to their desires and needs.
