The human body has around 400 joints that are constantly used on a daily basis. These joints have the function of connect the bones together and ensure the mobility of the skeleton.
From a certain age, especially around fifty, the joints suffer the consequences of aging and can become painful, which is then referred to as "joint pain." This joint pain is one of the most widespread health problems.

What causes joint pain?
Most often, joint pain occurs in elderly people, those who are overweight, or those who are athletes and have put a lot of strain on their joints, who are most affected by this type of pain.
Arthritis is also an inflammation or infection of a joint. It can be acute or chronic, in which case we talk about certain pathologies such as rheumatoid arthritis or other chronic joint rheumatisms .
Joint pain can also occur following an accident, trauma, inflammation of the tendons (tendinitis) or ligaments, or another illness such as the flu, gout, or Chikungunya.

What are the symptoms of joint pain?
The symptoms experienced depend on the origin of the joint pain. Joint pain can occur on its own, be accompanied by muscle pain during movement, or, in severe cases, be limited in mobility.
Joint pain symptoms are more intense in the morning upon waking and can cause morning stiffness. This pain can be diffuse, recurrent or transient, associated with a pathology or occur chronically.
Joint pain generally manifests as swelling or redness. When the pain is intense, recurrent, or accompanied by fatigue and/or fever, it warrants emergency medical attention.
Osteoarthritis, for example, manifests itself differently from one individual to another, however, the main symptoms are joint pain, muscle aches, morning stiffness, reduced range of motion or swelling in the joint or joints.
It is obviously recommended to consult a doctor in case of joint pain to determine the cause, but it is entirely possible to soothe it with natural health remedies that can complement or support medical treatment.

Natural remedies to relieve joint pain
There are some natural remedies, without side effects or health risks, which can relieve joint pain:
- Drink ginger tea: Ginger is one of the best natural anti-inflammatories that can help reduce joint pain, especially pain and inflammation related to arthritis. To consume it as an infusion, boil a few slices of ginger in water for about fifteen minutes. It is recommended to drink four cups of ginger tea per day.
- Consume turmeric: Like ginger, turmeric is also an excellent anti-inflammatory for joint pain (including osteoarthritis, for example), particularly stiffness and functional discomfort. This spice can be consumed in powder form to be incorporated into the diet, or in capsules to be swallowed.
It is advisable to seek medical advice before use in pregnant women and children.
- Apply green or red clay to the painful area: Clay has analgesic and relaxing properties that help relieve inflammation. It is applied, in the form of a paste, to the painful area for two or three hours. To obtain this clay paste, simply mix warm water with green or red clay.
Please note, however, that this natural remedy cannot be used by pregnant women or children.
- Use lemon eucalyptus essential oil: Lemon eucalyptus essential oil has an anti-inflammatory effect that helps relieve joint discomfort. It can be used by massaging the painful joint; four drops of oil are enough.
This essential oil cannot be used by pregnant women or children under 12 years old.
- Drink a meadowsweet tea: Meadowsweet is one of the plants known for its analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. This natural remedy is highly valued for rheumatism and joint pain. To consume it as a tea, as with ginger, boil a few leaves in water.
It should not be consumed by pregnant women, people allergic to aspirin and children.
- Take a baking soda bath: Baking soda has a relaxing and inflammation-reducing effect. To soothe joint pain, it is recommended to pour 4 tablespoons of it into the bath water, immerse yourself in it, and stay there for about 30 minutes. To best appreciate its benefits and pain-relieving effect, this treatment should not be rinsed off upon exiting.
Due to its high sodium content, it should be avoided by people with high blood pressure. It is also not recommended for pregnant women or children under 5 years old.
- Take a turmeric cure : Joint problems can quickly become disabling and hamper your activities.
